My Index fund and ETF Q1 2022 portfolio review

TLDR - Jan to March 2022 Index fund & ETF portfolio review

Jan to March 2022

The year started with a bang with a nice uptick for the first few weeks of the year, let us call it new year euphoria. Corona omicron wave is in the rear view mirror, the markets are opening up, businesses are hiring, there is a general positive vibe in the market. Then comes the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

As if we did have enough supply chain issues, the additional challenges that were brought about by the war and suffering of the people stuck in the middle of this geopolitical conflict. With sanctions and Oil prices shooting up, India managed to make some sweet heart deals on Russian oil but not enough to bring down the prices and there by causing inflation to shoot up globally.

After the correction, the prices have stabilised a little but I think the net result is the NIFTY 50 almost ended flat at end of March.

Key index returns

A small change in the index returns calculation, NSEINDIA provides TRI (Total Returns Index) values, so from this quarter I am using TRI data instead of index performance.

How was the market return on key indexes for the last 3 months ending 31-Mar-22?

  • Nifty = 0.84 %

  • Nifty next 50 = -2.21 %

  • Nifty mid cap 150 = -3.3 %

  • Nifty small cap 250 = -3.83%

Nifty flat but the other indices are marginally negative.

My ETF Investments

No new investments into ETFs, so these are just organic growth

Current value 8-Apr-22

My Kuvera Index funds

SIP is on auto pilot. Start of every year I increase the SIP amount by 10% typically in Jan but when I forget the folks at Kuvera send me a reminder on every SIP anniversary so that I can bump up the investments.

XIRR with the mid caps being the highest at 36% and Nifty momentum being the lowest at 19% and overall of 27%. If I can get this return over the long term (7 years +) I would be quite happy.

Conclusion

What is your take? How did your portfolio perform in the first quarter of the year? Did you stick to your plan? Did you add more?
